Lutz is professor emeritus at the University of Frankfurt and the German Institute for International Educational Research where he served as director and as head of the Department of Culture and Education. He was Visiting Professor at the Maharadja Sarayirao University Baroda (India), the Universidad de Costa Rica and the Shih-Hsin University in Taipei (Taiwan). Lutz holds a doctoral and habilitation degree in Psychology from University of the Saarland where he served as tenured professor of developmental psychology for 20 years. Lutz’ major research interests are in:
- Cross-cultural psychology, cultural psychology, environmental psychology, culture and development; education
- Methodical and methodological issues of cross-cultural and cultural psychology
- Development of moral judgements (ethical reasoning)
- Application and contextualization of developmental theory on moral judgements in different fields of action (coping with cancer, ecological issues, citizenship)
